U.S.P.T.O Opens First Satellite Office in Detroit

Earlier this month, the USPTO opened its first ever satellite office in Detroit, MI.  The Detroit satellite office is set to create approximately 120 jobs in its opening year. Their hope is to help further reduce the backlog of patent applications and appeals.  According to the U.S. Patent Office, “Reducing the backlog of patents and simultaneously speeding up the process will allow businesses to move their innovation to market more quickly, saving critical time and resources.”

USPTO Director David Kappos was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony and said, “Today’s expansion into Detroit fuels a new 21st-century innovation era for our country “The USPTO’s Elijah J. McCoy Office brings our nation’s innovation agency to the doorsteps of Michigan’s inventors and entrepreneurs, while also spurring new opportunity, growth, and jobs. That’s what this Office represents and that’s what the Motor City has always been about.”

Three additional satellite offices have been slated to open in Silicone Valley, CA, Denver, CO and Dallas, TX.  The timeline for the openings has not yet been released.
