Apple awarded $290 million in Samsung damages retrial

In the latest installment of the patent wars between Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a U.S. jury awarded Apple $290 million in the damages retrial against Samsung.

This latest decision comes after Apple and Samsung have been battling it out in courts for over 2 years. Last August a jury awarded Apple $1 billion finding that Samsung infringed upon various Apple patents relating to iPhone features. U.S. District Judge Lucy H. Koh upheld $600 million of that verdict, stating that how the jury arrived at the $1 billion figure was unclear.

Apple took Samsung back to court to try to regain the $400 million that was vacated.

Yesterday’s decision brings the total damages to be paid by Samsung to over $900 million.
